"Great harmony prevails in the different Departments of Government; and between the Members of the Senate and House, who hold opposite Political Sentiments--a mutual spirit of candour and conciliation is exhibited. It is rumored that the Confidential communications lately made by the President to Congress, regarded our Negotiations with the Dey of Algiers—Unfortunate circumstances have attended that business. The President it is said, has made arrangements for an accommodation with the French Republic—but no information is yet given to the Legislature on the nature of these Arrangements. The gentlemen of the opposition appear even pleased at the election of Mr. ADAMS to the Presidency; feeling satisfied that Mr. JEFFERSON will accept of the Second Office—and confident that those two gentlemen are on good terms with each other, they anticipate the utmost cordiality in their administration."
