A train will leave Seward for Fairbanks every Saturday morning, arriving at Fairbanks Sunday afternoon. Southbound the train will leave Fairbanks Thursday morning and arrive at Seward the following night.
Although the announcement did not so state, it is believed that the order is a sequel to the investigation of the Senate committee hearings and was made as a means to reduce operating expenses and thus cut down the deficit.
The McKinley Park station is also closed. This station is only kept open in the summer months during the tourist season.
