Danielson Champion of 4 Months Is Unable to Ward Off Opponent's Savage Right.-Puts Up Game Fight After Challenger Nearly Drops Him With Series Of Uppercuts.
In a fast and furious ten-round bout at Chicago Thursday night. Lou Brouillard, Danielson's three months-old champion of the welterweight division, lost the title to Jackie Fields of Los Angeles, former champion. Brouillard was outspeeded and outgeneraled, but it was Fields' smashing right, which made a constant and easy target of the French Canadian's jaw, that cost Brouillard the crown.
The affair was about even for the first three rounds until Fields started his series on Brouillard's jaw early in the fourth. He seemed to be connecting at will and the Danielson boy had no guard against that continual crash to the face.
In the sixth round the Californian had Brouillard in trouble. Two savage right uppercuts sent Brouillard staggering and a third made his knees buckle. Fields' parting shot in that damaging sixth was a fourth smack on the button that left Brouillard bewildered as the bell rang.
The next two rounds went to Fields by large margins, although the beginning of the eighth found the champ game and attempting a rally. He was desperate in the ninth and was pumping away effectively with both hands until that savage right whacked off his jaw late in the round, sending him back on his heels. The tenth was about even and the going fast with Fields' right scoring two uppercuts and Brouillard concentrating on the contender's body.
