Full Text

Extract of a Letter from Barbados.

There never was greater plenty of silver here than at present; all our payments for the produce of the Northern colonies are made in specie; and our currency, as you may well imagine, has been considerably reduced; notwithstanding which, scarce a vessel departs either for England or the continent, without having great quantities of dollars shipped on board, which plainly demonstrates how vastly beneficial, with regard to trade, our late connections with the Havana has been, and at the same time our loss, or rather infatuation to give it up. --It was, while in our hands, like Solomon's land of Ophir, to these Islands.
