Currency. -- The
French indemnity was brought home in
gold, and great credit was claimed for
the administration for such provident
care. Yesterday demands for installments
then due on claims allowed, were presented
to the Bank of America and payment
in gold required. It was refused: the
demand was formally made and protested,
and sent on for recovery to Washington.

A similar demand was made on the
Girard Bank in the city of Philadelphia,
and refused.
The sum total of the receipts at the
custom house, in the city of New York,
on the 16th inst, from all sources, was
forty-five dollars. Not a bond was paid,
in consequence of the requisition that they
should be paid in specie.
