MONTICELLO, Ga.—The Jasper County Association is honoring their Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Cadena Gideon Van Buren March 15 in the Jasper County Training School auditorium at 4:00 p.m.
Mrs. Van Buren was born and grew up in Oconee County, S.C.
She graduated from the high school in Seneca, S.C., attended Spelman College and received Bachelor of Science degree from Fort Valley State College. She has been a church and community worker for a number of years she has lived in Monticello. She is member of the County and State Voters League. Chairman of the colored division of the Cancer Society. PTA and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She is a member of St. James AME Church, president of the Senior Missionary Society, member of the Trustee Board and Sunday School Teacher. She has aided and inspired a number of Jasper County Training school students financially to complete a high school or college education.
