The Worth of a Friend
By Mrs. A. C. of Omaha, Nebraska

When you're down on your luck
And you're losing your pluck
And Fate deals you blow after blow;
When you've tried to play fair
And be honest and square
And yet never stand any show;

When you struggle and fall
And are sick of it all
And gloomy the Skies over you bend,
There is nothing like the grip
And the real fellowship
Of a fellow you know as your friend.

When the sound of the gong
Finds you whippedand the throng
Are eager to greet you with jeers;
When the goal of your dreams
Drifts away, so it seems,
And laughter must give place to tears;

When there are clouds in your sky,
And the tasks that you try
Seem hopeless and prospects are blue,
There's nothing can bring
A real thrill like the ring
Of the voice of a Friend who is true.
