Ten criminals have been convicted and sentenced at this term of the Municipal Court, three to hard labour in the state prison, and seven to confinement in the common jail.
Joshua Travis, a native of Roxbury, 23 years old, who has been out of state prison about four years, was sentenced to three years of hard labour, for stealing from a dwelling-house.
James Salter, a black, from the Southern states, of about the same age, was convicted of shop-breaking, and sentenced to two years of hard labor.
Isaac Charles, a Guinea-man, about 37 years old, was convicted of receiving stolen goods, and on making restitution, was sentenced to one year of hard labor.
John Johnson, alias Downing, alias Davis, born in the county of Essex, about 30 years old, was convicted of taking a box of glass from a waggon, & sentenced to confinement in the common jail for sixty days. He was induced perhaps by filial and fraternal affection, for his father and mother and brother are in the state prison, and he is probably making preparation to go home and make them a visit.
Three women, one a black, from New Bedford, and one from Portsmouth, N. H. were sentenced to 30 days confinement in the common jail, two upon a conviction of larceny, and one, the woman of colour, of assault and battery.
