Q.H.S. Student Council Notes
By Margaret Dowling and Susann Woodbery

We, the Publicity Committee of the Student Council, would like for the citizens of Quincy to know and understand the activities of our Student Council. Therefore, after each meeting, we will print a summarized version of the minutes of the preceding meeting. This first time we will try to explain a little about what the Student Council is. As quoted from the Student Council Constitution, "We, the students of Quincy High, Quincy, Florida, in order to foster a closer relationship, promote the general welfare, provide training for future citizenship, and secure the blessings of cooperation for all students, do hereby establish this Constitution for the Quincy High School Student Council." This Council is an organization composed of one representative from each homeroom of the seventh, eighth, and ninth grades. In the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade homerooms there is one representative for every 10 persons or major fraction thereof.

The 1961-62 officers are Barbara Craven, President, Edith Spooner, Vice-President, Carlotta Faircloth, Secretary, Jimmy Harvey, Treasurer, Martha Jane Smith, Chaplain, and Joe Laslie, Parliamentarian.

Some projects that the Council has carried out this year are: Homecoming. All dances after football and basketball games, Representatives to the district meeting and to an American Field Service Convention about exchange students, Educational bulletin boards at school, and Selling programs at the football games.

Regular meetings of the Council are held every other Tuesday during the school year.

The minutes of the last meeting held on January 9 are as follows:-

The meeting was called to order by the President, Barbara Craven. The devotional was read by the chaplain, Martha Jane Smith, and the secretary, Carlotta Faircloth, called the roll and read the minutes.

It was decided to have another dance February 2 after the Greensboro basketball game. There will be special entertainment and a dance contest.

A steering committee was appointed to work on plans for the Confederate Ball, an annual dance sponsored by the Council. This committee is composed of Mary Hall Gregory, Sherry Warren, John Andrew Smith, Johnny Luten, James Harold Thompson, Susann Woodbery, and the officers.

Along with reminding other committees about their projects, Barbara reminded the sportsmanship committee to see about setting the dates for the intramurals.

Then the meeting was adjourned into standing committees, which are publicity, fire prevention, courtesy, dance, scholarship, athletics, and elections.
