A SECRET OR MYSTERY.

The telegraph has already informed anxious thousands that his Majesty and suite, on board the famous steamboat R. E. Lee, passed Vicksburg last night, and that they will land tomorrow, at half-past 3 o'clock.

This sets many minds at rest and awakens pleasurable anticipations in every home in the Crescent City, yet does not quite satisfy a few busy-bodies, who saw a large van containing, they don't know what, driven into the courtyard of Carnival Palace one evening last week, on which were large boxes labeled in a, to them, unknown language.

We really do not see why people should be so very curious about what does not in any way concern themselves, yet we know that several persons tried to bribe one of the porters to tell them what was in the boxes. Our reporter asked, too, but, as a newspaper man, he was in duty bound to do that the public look to him and those of his like for information on all subjects. Nothing could be found out, however; the porter said it was "something," which, no doubt it was, and there the matter had to rest at the time.

We have heard since that the boxes were the private property of Warwick, and contained his costumes for the coming festivals. If Warwick was a married man we might believe that it took five immense boxes of dry goods to go round the family, but as he is a bachelor we respectfully decline to give credit to the information. The Dukes of the Woods, Maryland, Tobacco, Poydras, Modocs, Charleston, Idlewild and Mexico arrived at Carnival Palace yesterday.
