The Western Reserve Chronicle quotes from the Portage County Democrat's address to its subscribers touching advance payments, and adds:
The Democrat pays a high compliment to its subscribers, for their liberality punctuality and intelligence. If they possess these qualities, they must also have sufficient discernment to perceive that their county paper is one of the best county papers published in Ohio, or elsewhere: and that it is to their interest to give it a liberal and hearty support. We have no particular love for the Democrat, because we think it has sometimes shown a strong local prejudice against this county, and has given us several hard slaps; therefore we are not likely to over estimate its worth, but we must say in all candor, that no better county paper is ever seen on our table than that same Portage County Democrat."
We thank the Chronicle for its generous estimate of our humble sheet, regretting that we may have inadvertently or unconsciously, lodged in its memory anything unpleasant. We trust the selfishness of political aspirants, here or elsewhere, will never cause us to undervalue the great worth and value of so good and faithful a paper as the Chronicle, and now that we are in the same Congressional and Judicial Districts, we trust we'll ever be harmonious in co-operative efforts for the general good. The Chronicle is an honor to its County, and well deserves the confidence it enjoys of the true men, the faithful and able exponent of whose principles and views it is.--Portage Democrat.
