Quite a sensation was created in Canal Dover on last Saturday evening when it was learned that Henry Streb, Mayor of that city, had been arrested on the charge of receiving a bribe from two men representing themselves to be gamblers from Cleveland, but in reality detectives, who were about to open a gambling room in that city.
The arrest was made by Officer John Utterback. of Canal Dover. Mr. Streb was taken to New Philadelphia and arraigned before Louis Welty. J. P. He waived examination and gave bond and his trial takes place this morning.
Mr. Streb earnestly proclaims his innocence and says his arrest was brought about by his political enemies who are trying to side-track him for the indorsement for State Senator.
The news of Mr. Streb's arrest was a great surprise to his friends, as he has been regarded as an honest, honorable and upright citizen. The Tribune hopes that he can firmly establish a complete vindication.-New Philadelphia Tribune.
