HELENA.-Reductions of personnel of the State Highway department have affected a savings of $10,980 per month in operating costs, Don McKinnon, chief highway engineer, informed Governor Roy E. Ayers this week. The reductions were directed by the chief executive some months ago.
At a meeting of the commission this week, plans for opening spring construction were laid, and road building will start early in 1938.
Continuing the curtailment program, the highway commission meeting with Governor Ayers eliminated three additional posts, effecting new savings totaling $700 monthly. The jobs abolished were assistant director of the planning survey, now held by R. H. Wilcomb, $325 per month; right of way attorney, held by Joseph R. Rankin, $225; administrative clerk, held by Wesley E. Swogger, $150.
