The Danger In Letting Your Sincerity Become "Infectious"

Question: What travels faster than a rumor?

Answer: The "office cold."

The offender who so generously shares his watery-eyed sniffling and hacking cough with his co-workers often does so with no malice aforethought. He or she is, in many cases, a sincere and devoted employee.

This very sense of responsibility, as a matter of fact, can be the motivating force behind the virus peddler's philanthropic activities. He prides himself on his attendance record. He's likely to boast: "Haven't missed a day in five years, except when we put Aunt Jezebel to rest one Wednesday in '53."

A platinum-plated lapel button signifying five years' lack of absenteeism may rival the Medal of Honor in the eyes of the recipient. But it's little consolation to those upon whom he bestows his cold. Measured in terms of production, the office cold costs industry billions of dollars every year. Those who place a lesser premium on the lapel button have no aversion to staying home once they've been infected.

Take the word of your doctor of chiropractic: You'll be doing everybody a disservice-yourself included-if you go to work on those days you "should have stayed in bed."
