Protection of Commerce.—It is stated in the Philadelphia Freeman's Journal, that the secretary of the navy, on hearing of the numerous outrages on our commerce, with a promptitude highly commendable, has given directions to Lieut. commandant Gregory, of the U. S. schooner Grampus, lying at New York, to proceed immediately on a cruise along the coast of Florida and the Bahama Islands, in such directions as may be most likely to intercept the robbers. Similar orders have been forwarded to the public armed vessels on the southern coast.
