In Several Counties
The Virginia Farm Water Systems Contest aimed at increasing the use of pressure water systems in the rural areas of Virginia is underway in some 30 counties this month.
One phase of the water program is a contest now in progress in which residents of the State who are 16 years or older and live beyond city water mains may compete in 50 words or less one of the following statements: Our pressure water system helps us because... or We need a pressure water system because...
Prizes are first $250 second $100 third $75, and 12 additional prizes of $25, all in Savings Bonds.
Entry blanks are available from county agents, vocational agriculture teachers, electric power suppliers and certain water pump dealers. The contest closes at midnight, Oct. 15.
Governor Stanley, who endorsed the program said that despite the fact that more than 95 per cent of Virginia farms have electric service, over half are still pumping and carrying water by hand and are without such conveniences as a kitchen sink and a bathroom.
