"You will, I'm afraid, have little news from us for some Time: the West India Campaign I believe is closed in the Reduction of Mariegalante, which had stuck out for some Time, and which has now submitted on the same Terms as Guadaloupe. The Troops raised in these Islands are returned home to be disbanded: and General Barrington, it is said is preparing to sail for Europe, with the Land Forces which shall remain after Draughts have been made to fill three Regiments to their full compliment. These three Regiments will stay to secure the conquered Islands, the Inhabitants of which enjoy contentedly the Advantages of an English Government, and think themselves happy in a well protected Trade, and in Privileges which they never had before. The Commodore is expected every hour at Antigua, with 14 sail of men of War; he was last at Point Petres on Guadaloupe; and is to appoint a convoy for the homeward bound West India fleet."
