In accordance with our suggestion of a few weeks since, a citizens' meeting was held to consider the propriety of celebrating the coming Fourth of July, at which it was unanimously determined that a celebration should be held. The various committees necessary were appointed, and set to work. Judge Conway, of Lawrence, has been invited to deliver an oration, and has accepted the invitation. The Committee on "Ways and Means" have been at work collecting money to defray the expenses, and have been, we are told, quite successful. The celebration will be one of the old fashioned kind. The reading of the Declaration of Independence; orations, and a free dinner.
The citizens of Emporia and vicinity send greeting to their brethren in other parts of the country round about, and invite them to attend. Come with your wives and families. There will be "room enough for all." Let us celebrate the eighty-second anniversary of a nation's birth in a proper spirit--dropping all jealousies of place or politics.
The Fourth comes on Sunday, and the celebration will, as a consequence, be held on Monday.
