Full Text

From the lips of a Jacobin, in the days of the French Revolution, when the streets of Paris were literally inundated with rivers of blood, more difficult sentiments never escaped. The individual who can countenance them are alike ripe for "treason, stratagems and crimes"—and would not hesitate to employ the rack, the gibbet, or the guillotine, in the glorious work of revolution.

Duane's Aurora, a paper which is patronized by every Democrat of note in the country (from the President downwards) last fall declared that the friends of Gov. M'Kean, who dared to act with some moderation, were "on the way to the Gallows!" Duane added that they might for a season be respited, but that such would eventually be their fate.

Surely it is time for well meaning people to think seriously of threatenings like these. If the spirit of madness which prompted them continues to be fostered, it may with certainty be predicted that, at no distant period, our country will indeed become a "bloody arena."
