Va. State Offers Language Institute

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NNPA)

Virginia State College is one of 35 colleges and universities which will have modern foreign language institutes for the training of 2,000 elementary and secondary school language teachers next summer.

Lawrence G. Derthick, United States Commissioner of Education, announced Thursday.

The language institutes authorized by the National Defense Education Act, provide professional training to elementary and secondary school teachers of French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

An institute sponsored by Virginia State is scheduled to begin Aug. 4. About 44 secondary school teachers of French and Spanish will be enrolled. Dr. William T. Carter of the Department of Foreign Languages, will be the director of the institute.

School teachers interested in attending should write to the institute director.
