NATIONAL ELECTION.

In our last we gave a statement of the districting of Maine, for the choice of Federal Representatives, on the first of November next—together with the nomination of those most likely to be elected. If there is union and energy with the friends of true American principles, as supported by such irreproachable characters as Washington, Adams and their co-patriots, there will be no reason to doubt the success of the following

Federal Republican Ticket.

Kennebec, or First District,
Phineas Bruce, Esq.
Lincoln, or Second District,
Col. Samuel Thacher.
Cumberland or Third District
Gen. Peleg Wadsworth.
York, or Fourth District
Hon. John Lord.

All those who are not willing to prostrate our national glory at the feet of a Virginia faction, will see the importance of Union in the approaching election.

The above ticket is dictated by the feelings of
MANY.

"CITIZEN KINSLEY."

This man, to be sure, is brought forward as the jacobin candidate, against Phineas Bruce, Esq.—His pretensions to office may be understood by the following extract from the last Kennebec paper: -

"The citizen, it is well known, once figured as a follower of Shays: he afterwards exerted his humble talents in opposing the constitution, and the successive administrations of Washington and Adams. He is now a bankrupt in property as well as in reputation, and is ready to go through thick and thin in support of Jefferson and the Virginia interest."-Electors of Maine! such are the men attempted to be palmed upon you to the exclusion of tried, faithful, and virtuous characters.

We are happy to find by the last Kennebunk Eagle, that Mr. Lord will be handsomely supported in York district. A writer in that paper says, "Mr. Cutts's political character may as well be exhibited in ten words as in ten volumes—He joins the southern interest against the northern: answer me this plain question, are the gentlemen of the south, who fare sumptuously every day on the proceeds of the labor of numerous slaves, more likely to be sincere supporters of the liberty and enjoyment of the common people than gentlemen from the north, who cultivate the land themselves, or follow some other laborious and useful employment for a livelihood?"

He adds- "If we see and despise the low cunning of our competitors, and feel the importance of consistency and union, let us adhere to the man who is likely to be handsomely supported; that man is Col. JOHN LORD, of Berwick."

CHARACTER FOR A STATESMAN

"A disposition to preserve, and an ability to improve, taken together, would be my standard of a Statesman. Every thing else is vulgar in the conception, perilous in the execution.-[Burke.]"
