Overtures for Peace.—It appears, from some conversation that took place in both Houses of Parliament last night, that some overtures for peace have recently been made from France, in answer to which it was intimated, on the part of our government, that the Prince Regent was ready to treat on the basis to which it was already known that this country adhered. The principal point in this basis, is the evacuation of the Peninsula by the French—certainly no person can now think of making peace without that condition, whatever some, we believe not many, may have thought on that point before. The recent proclamation of Louis XVIII, was alluded to; the British government disclaims being a party to that proclamation. Whatever our wishes may be, it is not to be supposed that we could be so mad as to make the claims and the hopes of the Bourbons—feeling most tenderly for that unfortunate and illustrious race—a bar to the restoration of peace.
