PIZZARO.—It is over three hundred years since this romantic hero, of the olden time, passed off the theatre of existence. Pizzarro fell by the hand of the assassin, in his own Capitol in the city of Lima, the gem of the Pacific, now, three hundred and thirteen years ago. In June of the year 1541, at the hour of dinner the conspirators against his life, rushed in upon him, the company fled and left the old hero alone, who with sword in hand rushed upon them, using his weapon with the vigor of youth, and dealing death about him; at length from a wound in his neck he fell bleeding to the floor and it is said, that in the agonies of death he traced the holy cross of his religion with his blood upon the floor, and in an effort to kiss it was "finished," by Rada the chief of the conspirators.
