LOS ANGELES, June 29. (U.P.) - A bewildered Florida girl who "bought" herself a "one-way ticket to hell," lay silent on a hospital bed today, clinging to life by the thinnest of strands after a spectacular leap from a third floor apartment with the ticket fluttering in her grasp.
Doctors, working over the battered form of Betty Walker Amansec, 24, of Belleview, Fla., held no hope for her recovery.
The girl's plunge last night was witnessed by several persons on the street below, including two acquaintances who attempted to dissuade her from the act.
Poised on the fire escape of the apartment where she had been attending a party, she waved a long fluttering strip of paper into the air.
"It's a ticket to Florida," she screamed hysterically. "But I'm not going to use it. I'm riding a one-way ticket to hell tonight. Look out!"
With a final hysterical cry, she flung herself into space. Witnesses re-echoed her terrified scream.
The two acquaintances ran forward in a desperate attempt to catch her. The girl's body knocked them aside. She struck the pavement with terrific force.
