MONDAY MORNING, JANUARY 14, 1833.
VIRGINIA.
At the last account from Richmond, the debate on Federal Relations continued. After Mr. Gilmer, Mr. Marshall addressed the Committee in favor of his substitute. Mr. Gregory, of Williamsburg, followed in favor of the resolutions, and was succeeded by Mr. Watkins, of Goochland, in defence of the Proclamation, and annunciation of his readiness to sustain the Federal Government, and subdue South Carolina. Mr. Faulkner, of Berkeley, supported Mr. Marshall's substitute, and declared his opinions on the nature of our Institutions. Mr. Carter, of Prince William, in a fine effusion, supported the Resolutions, as did Mr. Roane, of Charles City, in a maiden speech, very much commended. Mr. Shell, of Brunswick, spoke next.
The Whig thinks the debate is drawing fast to a close. The Enquirer, says:—
"The debate is yet going on in the House of Delegates—in a smooth, unimpassioned, but uninterrupted current. No vote is yet taken—no other indication is yet given, for ascertaining the result. Three gentlemen spoke yesterday at one sitting, which shows that the speeches are becoming more laconic—and a motion was made to discharge the Committee from the Resolutions— These are some symptoms of a denouement.— But, if the House of Delegates can get clear of the subject, in the course of this week, it is as much as can be expected."
