On the 6th of July lieutenant-governor Simcoe, opened the fourth session of the legislature of the province of Upper Canada, by a speech to the gentlemen of the legislative council and house of assembly, convened in the council chamber at Newark.

On the subject of the treaty between the United States and Great-Britain, governor Simcoe observes that it " cannot fail to be mutually beneficial to the subjects of the king, more especially of British America, and to the people of the United States ; and it may be hoped (he adds) it will effectually remove all grounds of misunderstanding."
