The peculiar situation in relation to it seems to require an apology for what might otherwise be deemed inexcusable neglect.

LEICESTER ACADEMY.

MR. EDITOR,

A visitor at the last public Quarterly Examination of the School at Leicester Academy, was so much gratified with the evidences of proficiency on the part of the pupils, both in their manners and studies, that he is anxious to speak of it to the public. The readiness and accuracy with which the questions, proposed by the Instructors and Trustees, were answered by all the classes in their various studies, was highly creditable to the pupils, and gave the best proof of the fidelity with which instruction had been imparted. To this was added great propriety of deportment; and, upon the whole, the examination afforded to all who were present, very agreeable satisfaction.

The course of instruction at this Institution is evidently much improved; and, it is believed, that scholars have never enjoyed so high advantages there, as they do at present. There appears a cordiality of regard between the preceptors and their pupils, which has the best tendency to render the situation of the scholars at that school both pleasant and profitable. The great proficiency of those who attended to English and mathematical studies, evinces that the branches of learning in more general use are taught there with much success, while the uncommon accuracy which was displayed at the examination of the students in the Latin and Greek languages, leaves no room to doubt, that those who are preparing to enter College, cannot resort to a more favored place.

No Institution among us deserves more of the public patronage than the Academy at Leicester: and parents who choose to place their children at school away from home, may be satisfied, that they will be constantly and carefully provided for at that Institution; and that their hopes of seeing them make reputable attainments in the branches of knowledge to which their attention is directed, will be gratified, if this end can be accomplished by the kind, the assiduous, and the efficient superintendence of the valuable instructors of the Academy.
