AN UNWELCOME SIGN OF SPRING
Spring is here, with budding trees and singing robins, but
also marred by a perennially unwelcome sign of the season -
vandalism among flowers and shrubs. Several indignant house-
holders have called this office and suggested some action. Police
and school authorities also are receiving complaints. Some of
this destruction is malicious; some is the result of pure thought-
lessness. Probably most children, and some past the small child
stage, do not realize the money, time and hard work that go
into making things grow in this climate. Destroying property
in wartime, with current shortages, can be classed as sabotage.
Explanations and reminders from parents will help. But, if
offenders are caught, property owners and authorities are likely
to take even more drastic steps.
