Beloved Brethren—Friends of the Freewill Baptist Foreign Mission we have now two brethren and two sisters in the Province of Orissa, Southern India, engaged in Missionary labors. They have become in a good measure acquainted with the language, the customs and the prejudices of the natives: and have begun to preach to those poor, blinded, perishing Hindoos, the same gospel that we preach to the highly favored sons and daughters of America, and to spread among them the holy scriptures which are able to make them wise unto salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus. Their success in the glorious enterprise, must, instrumentally, depend on our united and constant exertions. Our dear brethren and sisters must be sustained in the arduous work. Their privations are many—their trials great—their sufferings abundant. We must remember them in all our prayers. While we surround our family altars—while we sit around our richly furnished tables—while we rest on our soft and downy beds; then let us remember our beloved Missionaries, who have, as yet, no certain dwelling place—no houses to dwell in to cover them from the equatorial heat, or to shelter them from the cold rains and nightly damps. Brethren, the cause is God's, and, under him. the cause is ours. We have put our hands to the gospel plow. We must not look back. We must do what we can for the glorious cause. We must attend our monthly concerts, and cast in our mites. The rich brethren and sisters must become life members. Let us see if we can add one hundred to our list of life members before the next annual meeting. That is, fifty males, and fifty females. Agents must be diligent—societies be punctual—every little will help. It is a trying time. But, let us hope for the best. All things work together for good to those that love God. Yours, in the best of bonds,
John Buzzell.
