"We have just received Advices here from the Crimea that the Tartars have rose on a Garrison of Russians and destroyed most of them; those who had the Happiness to elude the Slaughter got off to Kaffa, from whence an Express was immediately sent to this Court. Dispatches were immediately forwarded to the Russian Commandants in the Crimea, to Bucharest, and the Court of Constantinople; how the Affair will end cannot as yet be guessed, but the Court is in a very high Strain, and threatens severe Revenge. Certain it is that the Crimea Tartars have the most inveterate Hatred to the Russians, and joyfully prefer the Sway of the Grand Seignior to that of the Empress."
