CORK, Sept. 25. On Sunday night, the 9th instant, a very large body of those deluded people called White Boys, not less than 550 in number, all regularly clad in white uniforms (two excepted) mounted on horses, and armed, wantonly attacked the dwelling-house of Mrs. Phelan of Newtown, in the county of Kilkenny, forcibly broke it open, destroyed a considerable part of her furniture, put herself and whole family in the utmost terror if not peril of their lives, presented and snapped a gun at her body, which providentially missed fire, and then compelled her to take an oath that she would immediately go to the Rev. John Hewetson of Suirville, Rector of her parish, and surrender up to him a lease which her late husband had taken of his own tithes from himself in person, the pretended grievance which they came then to redress, or if she did not obey their injunctions she might prepare her coffin against their next visit; and we hear Mrs. Phelan accordingly rode 30 miles, the day following, on this errand. With such vigour, and effect, do these hopeful legislators enforce and execute all their orders. It is with much concern we inform the publick, as an undoubted truth, that the deluded people continue nightly adding to their numbers, by swearing and enlisting fresh men into their society, and that they now frequently appear in very large parties in several parts of this country, and even in the suburbs of the city, where they commit many outrageous acts of violence, unmolested, and unnoticed for what end a little time may perhaps fully open to our cost, eyes to us.
