Mild Weather Seen For City Election

With mild weather for east and a record 8,837 voters qualified to vote, tomorrow's municipal election is expected to draw the largest vote ever cast in the city.

Voting will get under way in each of the 16 precinct voting places at 7 a. m. and the polls will remain open until 7 p. m.

A field of 16 candidates is contesting the five seats on the city commission and one matter is being submitted to a referendum of the voters.

The candidates are as follows:

Group 1 (Mayor): Louis Cellucci, Delio Cobo and C. B. Harvey.

Group 2: Bill G. Chappell and Harry F. Knight.

Group 3: Louis Carbonell, Jack E. Clarke, Louis M. J. Eisner, Arthur Mulberg and John R. (Cowboy) Watson.

Group 4: Jack C. Delaney, Charles Parra, Austin Roberts and Paul J. Sher.

Group 5: Joe Fernandez and James A. Flenner.

Since tomorrow's election is a primary, only the candidate in each group who receives the majority of all votes cast in will qualify to have his name placed on the ballot for the general election on Nov. 19.

In races where there are two or more candidates and where one candidate does not receive the majority of all votes cast in that group, the names of the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be placed on the general election ballot.

Interested persons have been invited to meet at the Jaycees' clubhouse on Flagler Ave. to participate in an hour-long motorcade which will precede the rally in Bayview Park tonight.

The motorcade will leave the clubhouse at 7 p.m., make its way through the principal streets of the city and arrive at Bayview Park by 8 p.m., when the speaking is scheduled to begin.

Candidates will get a last chance to present their platforms to the voters at the pre-election rally slated for 8 p. m. in Bayview Park. The rally is sponsored by the Jaycees.

Each candidate will be allowed to speak briefly to the voters.

Polling places will be located at the following places:

Precinct No. 1, NCCS Building, 1021 Duval St.

Precinct No. 2, 425 Petronia St.

Precinct No. 3, Memorial Junior High School, United and White Sts.

Precinct No. 4, Grinnell and Virginia Sts., No. 3 Fire Station.

Precinct No. 5, Columbia Laundry, 617 Simonton St.

Precinct No. 6, County Courthouse, Whitehead St.

Precinct No. 7, Greene and Ann Sts., No. 1 Fire Station.

Precinct No. 8, Harris Elementary School, Margaret and Southard Sts.

Precinct No. 14, Grace Lutheran Church, 2713 Flagler Ave.

Precinct No. 15, City Hall Annex, Duck Ave.

In addition to indicating their preference for candidates for the offices of mayor and city commission, the voters will also be asked to indicate whether they favor ratification of a bill passed at the regular session of the State Legislature which would pay the members of the city civil service board a flat salary of $50 per month rather than the present scale of $5 per meeting with the amount paid limited to three meetings per month.
