HOW IT IS IN PIKE.

Dave Ball Warned - The Politicians Told to "Look Out."

Bowling Green, Mo., Dec. 18. - In this part of Missouri the stories that politicians have been telling have brought their logical results. It is a common thing to hear men say: "You can hear a good deal of Folk talk, but the men who go to conventions are against him and even in counties where public sentiment seems almost unanimous he won't get the delegates."

The idea that such is the programme and the dependence of the opposition to Folk has taken a stronghold on the minds of the country people and in this part of the state they are driving the politicians to cover. The Missouri farmer fully understands that he furnishes the backbone and the power of the Democratic party. He knows that the man in the court house is there because the farmer put him there and he shall stay there only as long as the rural Democracy shall decree. He does not feel any sense of obligation to the man in the court house and does not expect him to do more than his share of the thinking of the party.

Ex-Senator David A. Ball started to oppose Folk early in the canvas. An intimate friend today quoted Ball as saying: "I have been told repeatedly by friends, 'Look here, Dave, we stood by you in every fight you ever made. You knew that you could count on Pike county and you can yet, but this time we want something and we are going to get it. It is not your fight and it would be good for the good fellowship that has always existed between us if you would not oppose us now.'"

Others tell of similar experiences. The country Democrat of Northeast Missouri is slow to become aroused, he is still slower about getting back to a normal condition of satisfaction with everything that is going on.
