KANSAS CITY-(INS)- Former President Harry S. Truman announced Monday. Missouri Democrats have acceded to his request not to make him a delegate to the National Convention in Chicago this summer.
Preparing to leave today his 72nd birthday-for New York City and a six-weeks European trip, Truman told newsmen:
"I have requested the Missouri State Convention not to make me a delegate at the National Convention. Delegates have agreed and will comply with my request and are doing it simply because I did request it.
"I want to be a completely free agent when I go to Chicago for the National Democratic Convention."
The former President and Mrs. Truman will leave by train for New York City where they will visit with their daughter, Margaret. who has just returned with her husband. New York newsman Clifton Daniel Jr., from their honeymoon.
Mr. and Mrs Truman and Mr and Mrs. Stanley Woodward (he was former Ambassador to Canada) will sail Friday on the liner. the United States, which is scheduled arrive at Le Havre, France, May 16.
