Full Text
Mr. P. Wahder took unto himself a wife, yesterday evening, and about 8 o'clock a crowd of boys commenced charivariing him, following him from the door of the church to his residence. He offered the boys two dollars to go away and stop their din: but no, they must have ten dollars. Mr. W. said he couldn't afford to give that sum, and retired. The boys then commenced throwing missiles against the door, and raised a din that was altogether intolerable. One of Mr. Walder's relatives finally became much exasperated, and resorted to violent means to disperse the boys, and finally succeeded. He caught one of the boys, and, it is said, gave him a beating, and, the others, fearing like treatment, quieted their noise and decamped as quickly as possible.
This affair, we think, should put an end to charivariing. If it do not, then the police should interfere.
