Pony Express vs. Ocean Steamers.-
Jones, Russell & Co., of the Pike's Peak Express, and proprietors of the Ocean Line of Steamers, have entered on a race between New York and the Pacific coast. The two expresses, one by land and the other by water, left New York the latter part of last week. The Overland messenger will arrive at Palmyra to-day, and a special train will leave here at between 7 and 8 o'clock this morning, and put him through to St. Joseph in six hours! only stopping for wood and water. On arriving at St. Joseph, the messenger will leave immediately for the Pacific, with lightning speed across the plains, by horses which have been stationed along the route at intervals of twelve miles. This is not a "Quixotic," but a regular F. X. Aubry enterprise, and we believe the ponies will win.-Hannibal Messenger.
