CERTIFICATE IS BOGUS
CUSTOM OFFICIALS ARREST TWO CHINESE WHO HAD ENTERED THIS COUNTRY BY THE UNDERGROUND ROUTE

Evidence which seems to show that there is at Vancouver, B. C., an establishment for turning out forged certificates for Chinese wishing to cross the line, was discovered by the local customs officials Saturday night. Immigration Inspectors Lavin and Fisher went to Fremont and caught two contraband Chinese, Jim Lee and Ye Fong, as they were leaving the train. The latter had a forged certificate, the mere possession of which is made a felony under the law.

Both Chinese had illegally entered this country from Vancouver, where it is supposed the forged certificate was manufactured. Jim Lee's certificate is genuine, but it is believed that he was engaged in 'steering' the other Chinese to this city.
