In a sad Affair, which had like to have proved very tragical, happened on a late moon light evening; one Burrows, a very imprudent young man, (to say no worse of him): with another young fellow, loaded a gun with mixed shot, and went some miles to the house of one John Cooksey, in order to shoot Cooksey's dog, from whom he had received some affront; when they came to the house, the whole family sitting by the door, Burrows fired his gun, but either from his being a bad marksman, or something else, he missed the dog but shot Mrs Cooksey in the foot, so that she is likely to be a cripple, three shot went into an infant in her arms, whose life was for some time despaired of, and three other children were wounded, the man of the house narrowly escaped, one shot grazing his throat. It is to be hoped that Mr. Blunderbuss, whenever he attempts to shoot a dog again will get a gun that will not scatter so much, or take better aim. This may serve as a Caution to many imprudent Persons in this Town, who are often firing at Dogs, Cats and Rats.
