Hartford, September 21.
Last Monday was the Freemen's meeting throughout this state. In this town the freemen assembled at the usual hour. At the first ballot for representatives to the General Assembly, the votes were as follows:-
John Caldwell, Esq. 302
Thomas Seymour, Esq. 203
Federal majority, 109
Scattering (all federal) 10
At the second balloting the votes were for Ephraim Root, Esq. 296
Thomas Seymour, Esq. 176
120
Scattering 31
It afforded all the true friends to their country high satisfaction, to find the freemen so punctual in their attendance. so united in their votes. and so faithful to stay until the business was finished. It is worthy of remark, that the votes on the two sides last spring were at the same distance from each other-the federal candidate then having exactly 99 votes more than the democratic. This both then and now, excludes the scattering votes.
