MARYLAND ELECTION.
The election of Representatives to the Fifteenth Congress, and Delegates to the State Legislature, took place throughout the state of Maryland on Monday. From the neighboring district, in which there was so warm a contest between JOSHUA BARNEY and J. C. HERBERT, we have not heard conclusively, but it is believed Prince George's county will give Mr. Herbert a majority of 200; and that Anne Arundel will give a larger majority to Com. Barney, and thus secure his election.
In the Montgomery district, particularly in the county so called, there has been a severe struggle, not between the Republicans and Federalists, the former being greatly out-numbered in that county; but between two sections of the Federal party, the violent and moderate Federalists. The moderate party, we learn, gained a complete victory over Alex. Hanson, (lately in Congress) and over those (one excepted) who were run on the same ticket with him. The candidate of the moderate party, (and who received generally the Republican votes) Major G. PETER, received a majority of upwards of 200 in Montgomery county. It is hoped he is elected, though his majority will be diminished in Frederick county.
In Baltimore city the votes for two Members of Congress were as follow:
For Samuel Smith 4586
Peter Little 3287
Tobias Stansbury 2407
Gen. SMITH is certainly elected; but we know not how the returns from the county, may affect the contest between Gen. STANSBURY and Col. LITTLE.
