GENERAL MOTORS STRIKE
IS SETTLED IN N. JERSEY

Newark, N. J. - A strike that has tied up the assembly line at Linden for nine days was settled this week with acceptance of a tentative agreement by representatives of 4,000 strikers.

Nearly 3,000 members of local 595 of the United Automobile Workers (CIO) met here and ratified the agreement, which had been drafted at a lengthy conference between company officials and union negotiations.

Details of the agreement were not disclosed, but George Cranmore, international UAW representative, said that it provided "the best conditions that ever existed in the plant."
