Ramblin' Round
Cecil Mitchell McCormick, Guest Columnist

Hello folks, Thanks so much for all of your comments on last week's ramblin'. Like most human beings, I enjoy hearing from you anything complimentary. When you respond in the way that you have been doing of late, I am forced to say that I look forward to chatting with you each week.

COLLEGE CUT-OUTS:
Every magazine has its "Back-to-College" issue-every department store features its "Back-to-College" fashions-each newspaper has its few words to offer. I, too, have something to write.
There are so many young people going back to college that I'm sure I won't get a chance to mention everyone but don't blame me. From our town alone we have 11 schools represented. Look:
WEST VIRGINIA STATE COLLEGE will enroll Bernice and Bernard Strickland, Emma and Lorena Madison, Della Louise Brown, Alice Brown, Benjamin Crichlow, Sylvester Daniels, Margaret Minor, Vernice Godley, Billy Anderson, Ben Starks, Howard Gamble. Isabelle Hamler. Geraldine Reed, Mary Elizabeth Haynes, John Clark, Reginald Pleasant, Leon Sullivan, Wesley Lynch, George Gallion, James Randall, Eustace Dumetz, Pearl Price and George Washington. HOWARD UNIVERSITY: Erma McLemore, Walter Gordon, Dorothy Walker, Lucille Clark, Douglas Mitchell, and Eugene Cash. LINCOLN UNIVERSITY: Charles Chamberlain and Robert Gordon. HAMPTON INSTITUTE: George E. Chamberlain and James Brown. MORGAN COLLEGE: Nancy Carper. VIRGINIA STATE: Edward Dickerson and James Tabor. FISK UNIVERSITY: Anne Gamble. STORER COLLEGE: Dona Hairston, Elaine Fuller and Marvin Mills. MEHARRY MEDICAL SCHOOL: Crawford Starling and Lee Spaulding. KENTUCKY STATE: Edward Johnson. WILBERFORCE UNIVERSITY: Frankie Davis and Grace Ferguson.

To some of the number mentioned, this will be their first experience at college - while to others this will be their last year. Anyway, my advice to all of you is this: study hard, laugh lots and enjoy yourselves, because, my children, this is your last chance before you face the music to the tune of your own cash.

FAMILAR FACES:
It's coincidental that with so many folks in town enroute to West Virginia State College I should meet with any number of other former students of my Alma Mater. This week I have had the pleasure of renewing old acquaintances from my own school days. And folks, I almost wish I were packing my trunk and bags and getting ready to hit the campus.
I shook hands with David Smith the early part of this week. Remember him and Jimmy Gaskins and Hubert "Hooks" Jones?
Well, they have been attending Denver University out in their hometown, and came down this way for a spell. We all went to school together as well as many of you. (In case you don't know "Hooks". just see whom the fellow is with Jane Jackson and you'll know that's he. That romance had begun to blossom even when I was a co-ed).
Cleroyce Broxton, "pee wee" she was to most of, her friends, is here from New York. She's looking splendid these days but just can't stay away from the old hometown too long. Dawson Hall will never be quite the same I don't think since Edna Smoot( Mrs. Griffin now), "Pee Wee' Harriett Deaton, Lillian Walker, Bessie Lewis, (she's in Washington now), Thelma Wormley, (also in Washington) and I used to have such rollicking good times there, just to mention a few.
Madeline Claytor is here too. She's been attending Columbia University and is vacationing here before returning to her school where she is Physical Education director.
I caught a glimpse of Kessler Hise also. I remember him from dining hall days and I guess "other folks" remember him too.
So you can see that this September is quite a poignant one for me. If only I could go back to school and live again another glorious four years.

SUCCESS STORIES:
John Arthur White has been added to the faculty of the high school in Lexington, Virginia, where he is now an instructor in Industrial Arts. John made outstanding progress in his field and any faculty with him as a part is bound to be proud of his work. ' Same goes for Virginia Jarrett who will become a member of Washington high's faculty.
