Full Text
Dr. R. O. Johnson held out a challenge to the students at Morris Brown College last Monday as he pointed up to them the fact that the people in Laos are amazed at our failure to understand cultures other than our own.
After being presented to a chapel audience by Dr. Ann Cochran, Director of Teacher Training at Morris Brown, Dr. Johnson showed slides which indicated something of the customs and habits of the people of Laos and took a few minutes to say to his listeners that most of the people there are well versed in other cultures.
This he said is due largely to their knowledge of several languages.
Dr. Johnson lamented the fact that very few Americans speak more than their own language and are isolationist in their attitudes. He suggested that all of us should learn at least one foreign language well.
