DOWN TO WATER.—The Yellow Jacket Company has got down 317 feet, which is about 20 feet below water level. At that depth it struck a stream of water about two and a half inches in diameter. After this was struck, work at sinking was suspended, and the water allowed to rise to its level. The company is now running a drift to connect with its mine, and will soon have connections made and be working its ledge through its shaft as well as through its incline. It has lately been sinking an air shaft in its mine, which has been carried down about sixty feet below where the ledge has yet been worked, and has come into quartz of splendid quality. The rock of the company grows richer the deeper it is taken out. When the company gets its pump in and works its ledge below water level, it will, we believe, be found inferior to none in the district.
