We rejoice that the federal members of Congress have now put the issue to the people at once, bank or no bank. It is the very point above all others, that the Democrats have been most desirous of bringing before them. On this issue, we triumphed gloriously in the campaign of 1832-33, and again in the election of Van Buren in '36. But our opponents kept this issue out of sight in the Presidential contest lately determined. They meant banks but they were afraid to say it, trusting to fraud after the election should be decided, to carry their measure through. In this, an overruling providence, and the patriotic firmness of John Tyler, have signally foiled them. And now, the PEOPLE, the honest PEOPLE, will do the rest. Their voices come in tones of thunder, from the prairies of Indiana, the green mountains of Vermont, and the granite coasts of Maine,—every where the same.—New Haven Reg.
