SILVER MINE.

MOUNT PLEASANT, N. Y. Dec. 5.—We have before mentioned the existence of a silver mine in this village. During the last summer, a company has been formed, who are now engaged in pumping out the water. They speak with confidence of eventually discovering the precious metal—and from appearances thus far, no doubt exists, that at some former period this mine has been successfully worked. The company have already lowered the water to the depth of near forty feet, and have come to a pump which was used by the former miners, and have discovered a reservoir which has been used to contain the water. It is stated by those who resided in this neighborhood prior to the American revolution, that a company of miners were engaged in working, and had actually obtained large quantities of silver from this mine. But on the commencement of hostilities between the colonies and Great Britain, they abandoned it and went to England, with the intention of returning at the termination of the conflict. The emancipation of this country from the British yoke, however, it is thought, prevented their return, and from that time to the present, no attempts have heretofore been made to re-open the cavern. The enterprising individual, who we understand has leased the ground on which the mine is situated, has divided the stock into two hundred shares, of fifty dollars each, one half of which are already disposed of. The company have entered into the business with a spirit and an energy which leaves no room to doubt, that if any silver is to be found there, the inhabitants of Sing Sing will soon be gratified with seeing a specimen of the ore at least.
