TO THE PUBLICK.

The subscribers, having recently formed a connexion in business, under the firm of

GODDARD & KNOWLES.

Respectfully inform the publick, that the AMERICAN will in future be conducted by them, and the Printing Business prosecuted, in all its branches.

Of the character which the American has sustained, it does not become them to speak; but they assure the publick, that no exertions shall be wanting to render it still more worthy of patronage. It contains more matter, exclusive of advertisements, than any paper in the State, and it will continue to be zealously devoted to the interests of Agriculture, Commerce and Manufactures, while it will never relax its zeal in vindicating the claims and promoting the progress of Religion and Science.

The American will always contain a correct journal of the "passing tidings of the times;" articles connected with Agriculture and the Arts; Marine and Commercial Intelligence; and a detailed account of the proceedings of the State Legislature and of Congress; while in the Miscellaneous department, the general reader will find such original and selected articles, as may be adapted to "raise the genius and to mend the heart." They have secured the aid of a number of correspondents, who will assist to embellish and diversify the paper.

The large and increasing circulation of the American renders it a valuable vehicle for the wide diffusion of advertisements, which will be inserted at the prices usually charged in this town.

WILLIAM G. GODDARD,

JAMES D. KNOWLES.

All persons in arrears to this establishment for newspapers, advertisements or job-work, are earnestly desired to call and adjust their accounts at the American Office, without delay. Having made a new arrangement in his business, the subscriber is under the necessity of requiring the payment of his dues, which, in the course of nearly six years, have accumulated to no inconsiderable amount.
