Full Text

On Saturday, September 21, 1867, the Chicago Tribune said:--'There is one state--Ohio--in which the issue of impartial suffrage and equal political rights is fully and vigorously canvassed on both sides. The election takes place there on the second Tuesday of October, being only three weeks hence. We desire the Herald to watch the signs and indications and to note the result in that state. If Ohio goes copper-johnson this fall, it may be fairly claimed that there is a reaction against the principles of the republican party.'--But what will the Herald say if the Buckeye State should roll up 30,000 to 40,000 majority for impartial suffrage and congressional reconstruction? The republican party takes no steps backwards. Forward is the word!'
