Full Text

A gentleman from the northward informs, that it appears probable the opening a custom-house at the port of Alburgh, in this state, will induce a discussion of the point whether Great-Britain has a right to hold a military post within the United States or not. The fact. as he states it. is thus. a few miles on this side the spot where Colonel Keys proposed to establish his official residence, at Alburgh, a guard of British troops is placed, and the schooner Maria stationed, by which all boats, passing and repassing, are brought to and examined. This will no doubt be discordant to the feelings of the collector of the port of Alburgh, from whose established character. it may reasonably be presumed, an official insult will not be tamely brooked.
