The following Lines dedicated to the Memory of the Honourable
BENJAMIN PRATT, Esq; late Chief Justice of New-York;
and a Member of his Majesty's Council ;....was wrote
and published in Boston, Jan. 26, 1763.

WITH ardent Love for ancient Wisdom fir'd.
And with a Genius Heav'n alone inspir'd,
He rifled Rome of all it's mighty Store;
And still athirst to Athens went for more.
Both now exhausted....from the modern Page,
Fraught with the Sense of each preceeding Age;
He seiz'd it's Treasures ; made them all his own ;
And 'midt the Sons of Science greatly shone.
In him tho' Science did it's Rays unite,
And shed around him a distinguish'd Light,
'T was but a second Merit.... Virtue more
Adorn'd the Man than all his Learning's Store.
To Heaven now sped....beyond all mortal Ken....
He rivals Angels as he rival'd Men.
